Issues in My Tissues

My emotional biography is reflected in my physical body.  My past experiences have made deep impressions on the substance and form that I call home.

In this new series of embroideries, I imagine the organs within my body and their emotional content.  My issues are imbedded in my tissues.  Through the practice of making art, I acknowledge my biography and soul history and develop a conscious imagination of my current state of being.

As the same time, throughout this project, I will be working to create a new imprint for physical well-being. By imbuing my soul with new thoughts and new feelings, I have the power to transform my self and imagine my body anew.  Each self-portrait image will be contrasted with an enlivened image that places trust in the process of self transformation.

In this work, I seek an intimate, contemplative relationship with the organ that supports my well being. Through the choice of color, form and technique, the organ speaks to me, I intuitively connect with its energy and try to speak its language through color, stitch quality and density. How can I express the organ’s function? How does it relate to other organs in the body? How do I experience the world through its unique qualities? In the process of making each piece, conscious awareness of my gratitude to this organ is increased and my perception of its relationship to my inner and outer experience is widened and more defined.
